Bank and card statements are the usual reason people need this: the figures are right there in the PDF but selecting them by hand copies one long column of text with the dates, descriptions and amounts all run together.
Because a PDF only records where each piece of text was drawn, the table has to be rebuilt from those positions. Rows come from the vertical position of the text and columns from the horizontal, which is why a neatly aligned document converts almost perfectly and a magazine-style layout does not.

Does it work with scanned PDFs?
No. A scan is a picture of a page with no text layer, so there is nothing to read. Use the Image to Text (OCR) tool for those, then paste the result into a spreadsheet.
Will the columns come out right?
PDFs do not store tables — only text at coordinates — so columns are reconstructed from where the text sits. Documents with aligned columns (invoices, bank and card statements, exported reports) convert cleanly. Free-form layouts may need a tidy-up.
Is my file uploaded?

Can I get a CSV instead?
