About Redact PDF

Covering text with a black box in an editor hides nothing — the words are still in the file and one copy-paste exposes them. Redaction removes them. This tool finds every occurrence of your terms, deletes the text objects, scrubs the image pixels beneath and draws the box.

Frequently asked questions

Is this real redaction?
Yes. Unlike drawing a black rectangle, the underlying text is removed from the document — searching or selecting will not reveal it. Pixels under the box in images are cleared too.
Is matching case-sensitive?
Yes, matches are exact. Add variants (e.g. 'John' and 'JOHN') as separate lines.
Can I redact by area instead of by words?
Not yet. For a rectangle you draw yourself, use Edit PDF's whiteout, keeping in mind that only this tool removes the underlying text.
