The Going-Live Checklist

Most stream disasters are preventable in the ten minutes before going live. Run this list until it is muscle memory.

Tech (T-minus 10)

  • Bitrate test or brief private stream — audio levels first; viewers forgive soft video, never crushed audio.
  • Scenes and overlays loaded: starting-soon, main, break, ending.
  • Alerts tested; notifications on your own second device to see what viewers see.

Packaging (T-minus 5)

  • Title says what is happening now, not just the channel name — live titles are your thumbnail.
  • Category/tags set; announcement posted where your audience lives (a Telegram channel shines here).
  • VOD settings confirmed — future-you wants this stream in the library.

The first two minutes

Start talking immediately, even to zero viewers — arrivals in minute three should land mid-energy, not mid-silence. State the plan for the session in one sentence, then begin. Waiting rooms kill momentum.

During

Keep the plan visible, re-anchor for joiners, and glance at concurrents to learn which segments hold (the full craft is in the stream growth guide). For YouTube streams, a live counter on a side monitor shows viewers and likes without opening Studio.
