LinkedIn is the only major network where the headline public number stops counting: personal profiles display connections precisely up to 500, then simply say "500+" forever. Followers, though, keep counting — and they are the growth metric that matters.
Connections vs followers
- Connections are mutual: both people accept, and the public display caps at 500+.
- Followers are one-way: anyone can follow your posts without connecting, so follower counts can grow far beyond connections — especially for people who publish consistently.
Company pages
For businesses, the page follower count is public and uncapped — the standard measure of B2B reach. Watch followers gained per post and per campaign; LinkedIn audiences grow slowly but tend to be unusually durable and high-intent.
Why the 500+ cap exists
LinkedIn de-emphasised connection-count status games early on: past 500, the exact number stopped signalling anything useful about professional credibility. Followers took over as the honest measure of audience.
The LinkedIn follower counter on our roadmap will track page follower totals through permitted access only. For the cross-platform picture, start at the platforms hub.
