How to Compare YouTube Channels Fairly

Comparing two channels by subscriber count alone is like comparing companies by founding date. Size tells you history; it does not tell you who is winning now. A fair comparison uses three lenses.

1. Ratios, not totals

  • Views per video ÷ subscribers: what share of the claimed audience actually shows up. A 100K channel out-punching a 1M channel here is the stronger channel today.
  • Likes per view: content resonance, normalised for reach.

2. Cadence and catalog

A channel uploading weekly for a decade and a channel that spiked once carry the same subscriber count differently. Check recent uploads: consistency is the strongest simple predictor of continued growth.

3. Trajectory

Growth direction beats position. Watch both channels' subscriber counts over the same weeks — the live counter makes any channel's current number checkable in seconds, and the trending page shows how the giants rank right now. For head-to-head milestone drama, that is the whole sport of follower races.

The one-line method

Normalise by ratios, weight by consistency, judge by trajectory — then subscriber count becomes the least interesting number on the page.
