YouTube Studio offers dozens of charts; growth comes from reading five of them in the right order. Here is the checkup, from outside-in.
1. Subscribers — the public scoreboard
The number everyone sees, tracked live on our counter. Watch its velocity after each upload — subscribers-per-video is your conversion metric.
2. Click-through rate — the packaging test
Of the people shown your thumbnail, how many clicked? Low CTR with high impressions means YouTube offered you an audience and the packaging declined it. Fix title and thumbnail before blaming the algorithm.
3. Average view duration — the promise test
Retention tells you whether the video delivered what the thumbnail sold. Sharp early drop-offs mean a broken promise; mid-video cliffs mark the exact moment interest died. This is the metric the recommendation system respects most (see audience retention).
4. Traffic sources — the discovery map
Browse and Suggested mean the system is distributing you; Search means you own demand; External means the internet is talking about you. Each source rewards different content decisions.
5. Returning vs new viewers — the audience health check
New viewers grow the top; returning viewers are the channel. A library that keeps neither is a topic problem, not a luck problem. The analytics-driven content guide turns these five numbers into a weekly routine.
