A creator fund is a pool of money a platform distributes to eligible creators based on performance. It sounds like YouTube-style monetization; structurally it is very different, and the difference explains most payout complaints.
Fixed pool vs revenue share
- Fixed pools (the classic TikTok fund model): a set budget divided among qualifying views — so as the platform grows, per-view payouts can shrink. Newer programs have shifted toward rewarding longer, original content.
- Revenue sharing (YouTube's model): creators receive a percentage of the ad money their content actually generates — payouts scale with the business (see CPM vs RPM).
The practical read
Funds are a bonus, not a salary; durable creator income stacks revenue share, live gifts (see Super Chats and gifts), memberships, and brand work — which is why serious creators track audience growth first and program payouts second.
